University Revised

Finishing exams I was petrified of my next step of going into the big bad world of careers, not to mention my one little problem... I had not the foggiest idea of what I wanted to aim to do. I browsed the possibilities and came across a few things I thought I'd have a go at. One of them was Estate agency: I loved meeting and corresponding with new people and who doesn't love having the odd nose around peoples homes? So, I went out there and landed myself an interview for a local estate agents. It went well and I got asked to do a trail day starting off small doing general jobs whilst getting to know the processes and clients and then becoming the one that sells homes!

After spending a ridiculous amount of money on 'appropriate clothes' I pranced in all optimistic but I HATED it. It wasn't an atmosphere I was accustomed to and I just did not see myself ever fitting in. The dog eat dog culture wasn't one that suited me and I walked out knowing for sure estate agency is something I couldn't do.

The next water to test was a Summer Scheme at a local primary school I was familiar with. I got my CRB check (all clear!) and signed up to 3 shifts/ days; tennis, going to the farm and 'fun and gaming'. Almost immediately after starting I just knew working with kids was something I wanted to do. I've always been a maternal soul but I'm the youngest of my family and not around children often to have had my epiphany any sooner.

a quick bit of jewellery making before heading to the farm

But after just those few days, my life was already made a whole lot clearer. During this time all my friends were buying their new bedding, plates, knifes and forks, washing up liquid etc. for their big moves to university and it made me really rethink my decision. I always knew what I'd love to study at uni but, as said in my previous post, it seemed a bit of a waste as it wouldn't direct me anywhere. But to be a teacher you need a degree and it can be in anything you like. It was as if everything suddenly clicked into place and I decided that I would take up a degree in a subject I'm passionate about and go on to train to become a teacher and work with the little 'uns!

I still stand by what I said about my previous decision and I am so relieved I didn't jump into university not knowing if it would help me in any way, but I am now also very glad to say that university in September 2014 is on the cards!
